Medical Programming

As the area's only medically-integrated fitness and health center, Powell Wellness Center (PWC) offers an assortment of medical programming that makes it possible for people of all ages and backgrounds to safely enhance their overall health, wellness, and physical fitness. Our menu of medical programming includes:

FITscripts—Prescribing Exercise as Medicine

PWC created FITscripts from The Exercise is MedicineTM program, which is an initiative of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Association (AMA). It is a physician-referral program designed for those who need to exercise but who may have a chronic condition or physical limitation such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, pulmonary disease, arthritis, or orthopedic limitation that is preventing them from regular exercise.

Through FITscripts, physicians, physical therapists, and cardiac rehab professionals can now prescribe exercise by referring patients to PWC for an eight-week program of supervised and group training, as well as nutritional education. PWC exercise specialists work directly with physicians and their patients to create an exercise program designed to meet each person's specific needs and goals.

Kids need FITscripts too! PWC is now offering Kids FITscripts, a physician-referred exercise program designed with kids in mind. It's perfect for kids who may have a chronic condition or physical limitation, like diabetes, obesity or orthopedic limitation. Through fun and exciting activities, kids will gain an understanding and appreciation for adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Cardiac Rehab

Cardiac Rehab is a supervised exercise program where individuals learn to self-manage their overall cardiovascular health. It is designed for those with known risk factors such as coronary artery disease, a history of bypass surgery, heart disease, recent heart attack, or other heart-related problems which need monitoring. Individuals can be referred by their primary care physician or cardiologist at any time.
